We believe that educating our clients about their plans is an important part of this process.  Understanding common terminology and, for our retirement plan sponsors, defining the responsibilities of the pertinent parties (the employer, ERISA and the financial consultant), will optimize the day to day operation of your plan.

Clients who have not included a "Safe Harbor" provision in their 401(k) Plans should monitor their discrimination testing closely.  Post year end corrections of a failed ADP/ACP discrimination test can be a hassle for everyone involved.  We prefer to see our clients pass their tests without corrective distributions or additional contributions.  As a means to assist clients in this area, we offer "Interim Testing" for a fee of only $10 per participant ($150 minimum).  Based on data up to a certain date or projected data for the year, we can perform a preliminary review, alert you to any apparent problems and even make recommendations for increasing deferrals on behalf of the highly compensated employees if the test is projected to pass within a sizable margin.  We strongly recommend this service - particularly to clients who do not have any other interim valuations prepared by ERISA during the plan year.
